In 2017, more than 22,000 people visited our 1000 Voices space at Genesis Centre in northeast Calgary.
They came for many different reasons—from accessing free legal advice and tax clinics to receiving free health and dental screenings on the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile or Alex Community Health Bus. Some were young and some were seniors. Some were new to Canada and some were long-time residents of Calgary. But all shared one thing in common: gratitude for a safe space to learn, build connections and access supports and resources.
At Aspen, we are grateful to our community partners, funders and the Genesis Centre for making our vision for the 1000 Voices space become a reality. Over the past year, we welcomed more visitors than ever before, had more event attendees than ever before, and were able to provide space to help even more resident groups and community agencies work towards achieving their missions.
We’ve learned a lot over the past year and are working to add even more exciting resources, programs and services for our community. Presently, we are in the planning stages of adding more programming for youth, including summer camps and art-based projects. We’re also planning events to deepen engagement and education in the North of McKnight community of local First Nations.
To everyone who visited 1000 Voices over the past year and to all our dedicated staff and amazing partners, thank you! Thank you for making 1000 Voices a welcoming, supportive and inclusive space for all voices.
