Support Homes

At Trellis, our goal is to provide every young person with the supportive family-based home environment they need to be their best self. Our community Support Homes do exactly that, giving children and youth ages 12 to 24 the opportunity to not only learn and grow, but overcome their challenges and thrive.

Our unique Support Home program provides temporary supportive living arrangements to young people involved with Children’s Services in Calgary and area. As well, our Support Homes are available for youth from out-of-town who are receiving day treatment through the intensive 8- to 12-week Calgary Eating Disorder Program at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

What you’ll provide

As a licensed caregiver, you will provide youth with support, guidance and mentorship, forming part of their core support team.

What you’ll receive

All Support Homes receive free ongoing support and training, as well as a tax-free per diem to cover the costs associated with providing short-term care to a young person. In addition, all Support Homes receive 24-hour access to a support worker, daily or weekly check-ins and invitations to special events for our dedicated caregivers.

Of course, the greatest reward of all is seeing the impact a caring, supportive home can have on the life of a young person when they need it most.

Become a Landlord Partner

Thanks to our amazing landlord partners, we can provide families and young people in Calgary with a place to call home when they need it most.

Trellis Society's housing programs provide extensive support to families and young people who are at-risk or experiencing homelessness in Calgary. We know that without stable housing, learning new skills and being successful is much more challenging and sometimes impossible.

When you partner with us, you are championing people's right to safe housing and supporting their growth as they rebuild their lives. Thank you for giving people in our city the chance to move forward from surviving to thriving.

Landlord Supports

Our Housing Liaisons support the landlord by:

  1. Being the main Trellis point of contact for the landlord.

  2. Attending viewings, facilitating lease signings or inspection reports, or both.

During the tenancy, the Housing Liaison will:

  1. Be the point of contact to provide ongoing support to landlord between program and tenants.

  2. Liaise between Support Workers and landlord regarding tenant issues/concerns (e.g., rent arrears, property maintenance, guest management, etc.)

  3. Support landlords by providing information on appropriate steps for ending tenancies if required.

    • In some cases, the Housing Liaison will refer the landlord to the Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service (RTDRS) should the tenant or Trellis not be able to resolve issues to the Landlord’s satisfaction.
