Operating in Calgary and Strathmore, Aspen’s three Hand-in-Hand Parent Link Centres provide a safe and supportive environment for families with children aged 0 to 6 to access and explore child development programs, parent education opportunities and valuable community resources. All programming is provided at no cost.
Designed to meet the specific needs of the communities they serve, each centre also offers an array of community-specific programs such as clothing exchanges, nutrition programs, and opportunities for children to connect and learn through play.
In addition, our centres regularly collaborate with community residents and other community agencies to plan and organize special events and activities tailored to the unique needs of the families in the communities served.
It is through these relationships, programs and events that we work together hand-in-hand to strengthen ourselves, our families and our communities.
As of March 31, 2020, the Ministry of Children’s Services will be ending contracts with 300 organizations across the province that offer prevention and early-intervention services such as Parent Link Centres, home visitation services and Community/Family Resource Centres. The Ministry has offered an exciting opportunity that will support stream-lining services for families in Alberta communities. The Family Resource Networks will be introduced April 1, 2020, integrating the services previously provided by the Parent Link Centres, home visitation programs and family resource centres and will continue providing programs and services to children, youth and families.
Aspen has been invited to submit a proposal to be a part of the new Family Resource Network. Aspen will be applying to be a part of the new Family Resource Network, which will continue to deliver high quality programming for families with children ages 0-18. This change will ideally allow Aspen, and other organizations in the sector, to better serve Albertans no matter which community they live in.
Aspen is optimistic for the future Family Resource Network and is using this as an opportunity to leverage the passion and commitment that Aspen’s services have contributed in the community over the years and moving forward to new possibilities in this exciting direction. For the time being our Parent Link Centres and Family Resource Centres (HOSC & HOTNE) will be open and running programming. Organizations will be notified with a final decision in March of 2020 and we will continue to provide updates as we receive them.
