helping people
create better lives
We offer programs that assist families who are experiencing poverty from becoming homeless. Providing a bed is not the only answer. We provide support on a broad range of topics such as parenting, budgeting, communication, building healthy relationships, and self-esteem.

Families in Transition

Who is it for?
Families seeking a way out of a homeless situation.

What is it?
A two-part program that provides a wide range of services and support to help parents of families improve their situation.

When many of us think of homelessness, the first thing that comes to mind is finding a shelter where people have a safe and warm place to stay in the evening. But what about the rest of the day when shelters close their doors?

Aspen is working to complement the services of shelters by helping these families during the daytime hours.

Our Families In Transition program is for those searching for a way out, or seeking a way to deal with the challenges and demands of their current situation.

The Aspen Families in Transition program has two parts: The Other Twelve Hours and The Families in Transition Support program.

First, families participate in The Other Twelve Hours program. The Other Twelve Hours provides valuable life skills training and support. This innovative 6-month program engages participants in support and educational groups, while providing supplemental services such as on-site childcare, transportation and individual counseling.

Families who graduate from The Other Twelve Hours group then move on to Families In Transition Family Support program. Families meet weekly to build upon positive changes they have initiated. Through these two program approaches, we assist an average of 40 families per month who are experiencing risks associated with poverty
