The Aspen Full Circle Event

On November 19th, we’re holding an evening of excitement and inspiration. Our Full Circle Event is a one-of-a-kind interactive evening with discussion circles led by CBC’s Jian Gomeshi and a keynote speech by Stephen Lewis, one of the world’s leading thinkers and activists in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Thought provoking discussions will be complimented by a selection of incredible food and the energy of live drum circles. As one of the premiere galas of the year, the diverse array of activities, thoughts and discussions at this event are sure to motivate, uplift and invigorate.

CPC Elevate is Taking Aspen to New Heights!

CPC Elevate is holding the 3rd annual Worldwide WOW Photo Contest and Gala in support of Aspen. Amateur photographers are invited to submit entries by October 27th, 2009 for a chance to win some great cash and photography prizes. Winners will be announced at the Worldwide WOW Gala which is being held on November 12th at Willow Park Wines & Spirits. Last year, this event raised over $40,000 in support of our Empowering Families program and helped hundreds of Calgarians move beyond poverty. Diva for a Day
Every November women participating in our programs are treated to a day of relaxation and rejuvenation. This day of self-care is full of surprises and may include everything from makeovers and shopping to an evening of entertainment.
Annual General Meeting
In the fall of 2009 we will be holding our 25th anniversary Annual General Meeting. This event will be a celebration of the last 25 years of success and give us the opportunity to recognize the contributions of our partners through the HOPE Awards (Honouring Our Partners Excellence).
Aboriginal Open House
In honour of National Aboriginal Day, June 21st, we're holding an open house to celebrate the important work being done in aboriginal communities.
Dad and Me
This incredible day gives families a chance to spend some quality time together. Fathers and their kids work together to create a unique woodworking project and memories that will last a lifetime.
Aspen’s Urban Street Party
On May 9th, 2009, we will be closing down a Calgary street and pulling out all the stops to celebrate Youth Week and the naming of the new apartment building which is home to young people who are participating in the Supported Independent Living program (SIL). This youth-centred event will feature a live DJ, hip hop dancing and demonstrations from some of the city's best graffiti artists and much more!
Kurl for Kids
On March 14th, 2009, we're holding our 25th anniversary curling extravaganza. This event brings community partners, business leaders, staff and volunteers together to have some fun while raising money for Aspen's youth programs. Last year's event was a huge success, and we expect this year's to be even better.
Annual General Meeting & Report to Community 2008
On September 17, 2008 Aspen presented our Report to Community at our Annual General Meeting at Fort Calgary.  The event celebrated the successes from the past year as well as honoured our partners through the Annual HOPE Awards (Honouring Our Partners Excellence). The event was emceed by Janay Ferguson and featured a special presentation from the SN@P Forum Theatre youth group which appeared at the Calgary International Children’s Festival.

WOW Raises Over $40,000 to Empower Families

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the Canadian Progress Club (CPC) Elevate Worldwide WOW Photo Contest and Gala event that raised more than $40,000 for the Empowering Families program.

The WOW Photo Competition was launched earlier in the year which drew over 340 entries from across Canada.  The WOW Gala exhibited the winners of the contest with a photo from a young Calgary photographer, Sean Caffrey, taking Grand Prize with his entry, “Girl on a Water Buffalo”.

The Empowering Families program is aimed at ending the cycle of poverty by developing people’s assets so that families are able to be independent and create sustainable livelihoods.

Aspen’s motto is: Helping people create better lives. And with partners like CPC Elevate, we are succeeding.

Stampede Open House 2008
On Friday June 20, Aspen celebrated it’s annual Stampede Open House, in partnership with our office neighbour Enviros.  It was a great day, celebrating our many partnerships, volunteers and funders in the community.  Thank you to everyone that came out and participated!
Kurl for Kids 2008

We would like to thank all the participants, sponsors, and volunteers that made this years Kurl for Kids a success.

The event brought together community partners, businesses, staff and volunteers to raise money for Aspen youth.  In total, the event raised $18,000 that will go to providing recreational activites for youth.

Thank you for supporting this event and helping create better lives.

United Way Campaign
Aspen’s United Way Campaign 2007 was a huge success that celebrated the ongoing support that Aspen receives from the United Way of Calgary and Area.Staff events for the campaign included the Annual Chili Cook Off, Car Rally, Haunted House and Raffles. Each year, Aspen receives participation from all staff through creative and fun approaches to raising awareness and support for the United Way of Calgary and Area.  This year we raised $8,018!!! 
Annual General Meeting & Report to Community 2007

On September 26, 2007 Aspen celebrated our Annual General Meeting and Report to Community at Fort Calgary.  The event celebrated the successes from the past year as well as honoured our partners through the Annual HOPE Awards (Honouring Our Partners Excellence).  The event was emceed by Janay Ferguson, of Litehouse Consulting and guest speakers included Norm Flynn, from HEROS Hockey, a program for youth that is offered in partnership with Aspen.

Launch of New Bus for Aspen

Aspen is pleased to announce that we have completed fundraising for a new, 24 passenger minibus to transport children and families experiencing homelessness. The bus will provide safe and consistent transportation for homeless children to our partner school, Catherine Nichols Gunn and parents who are participating in our Other 12 Hours program will receive daily transportation to the program.
