It’s time to dust off your brooms and get a team of four to participate in Aspen’s annual Kurl for Kids event to be held on March 1, 2008.

The event brings together staff, community partners, funders and donors to raise support for children growing up in our group homes. Funds raised from the event go toward providing positive opportunities for kids, such as attending a summer camp, going on a vacation or playing team sports.

To register today, call the main office at 219-3477. The cost for a team of four is $240.00 which includes an afternoon of curling, prizes and entertainment!

From all of us at Aspen, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our donors, volunteers and participants who assisted with this year’s Kurl for Kids

Aspen is actively recruiting fun volunteers to mentor youth and children!   One person can make a difference. Hang out and get to know a youth or child in your community by committing to 2 hours a week, 3 to 4 times month. Anyone over 18 please apply. Training and screening will be provided.

Other volunteer opportunities include tutoring, fundraising, event planning, marketing, aiding staff with youth programs or providing childcare support for children whose parents are attending groups or workshops.

Holiday Campaign a Success!
Posted on: 2008-01-08
Thanks to our generous sponsors and individual donors we are pleased to announce that our 2007 Holiday Campaign surpassed it’s goal and assisted over 160 families with basic needs support over the Holiday season.

We’d like to take a moment and thank everyone who gave including Enmax Energy Corporation who assisted each family with an energy credit toward their utilities this season. Other major sponsors include Trend- Setter Exteriors, Five Jay Investments, Husky Energy, Delta Airport Hotels, and Spartan Controls.

We are well aware that our work of building upon people’s strengths to help them deal with life’s challenges would not be possible without the support of our funders, donors, partners and volunteers. Thank you for helping create better lives!

At Aspen, we help people believe in themselves. That is why it is so important to attract staff and volunteers who truly believe in what they are doing.

Over the years, we've been extremely fortunate in attracting energetic and passionate people who are driven to help Aspen carry out our mission - and make a meaningful impact in our community.

We are always looking for people who demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm and believe in the power of a strength based approach to helping people.

Aspen's Unique Approach To The Holidays
Posted on: 2007-10-11
Aspen’s innovative Holiday program is designed to meet the needs of children and families experiencing poverty throughout the Holiday season. The program focuses on providing families with basic need support such as heat, electricity, groceries, recreational opportunities, games and small gift items. By taking this approach we assist families who are facing the rising cost of living in Calgary and provide support which will assist them into the future months. By doing this, we provide families with the ability to participate in the joy of picking out gifts for their own children, without the worry of their basic needs. Remembering each family is unique and everyone’s holiday celebration varies, this program enables different kinds of traditions to grow and flourish. This year, with support, we plan to assist 120 families through this program.

Your gift of $225 will assist a family of four in a way that makes a lasting difference.

A Holiday package includes:
$100 grocery gift certificate
$100 utility gift certificate
Donated gift items, shoeboxes, recreational passes games and crafts for the family.
(each gift package is valued at approximately $400)
New Look for Aspen
Posted on: 2007-10-01
Aspen is pleased to introduce to you the design of our new logo and refreshed website.

Our goal is to have materials that reflect Aspen's unique approach of building upon people's core strengths so they are able to deal with life's challenges and create a better life. The rings you see represent our approach, which is to focus on the core strength of the people we serve and provide a continuum of service for our clients.

Whether it is a child in need of a supportive home, a family transitioning out of homelessness or opportunities for youth, each client is supported through a continuous network that is building strength, one layer at a time.

Support for part of this project was generously provided by The Calgary Foundation.
